Job Description

Job Summary Cahaba Truck & Equipment is seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and energetic Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our growing service team. In this role, you will diagnose, repair, and maintain a diverse fleet of heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, industrial machinery, and railroad vehicles. Your expertise will help ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of equipment critical to our customers' operations. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide range of equipment, including on-road and off-road diesel trucks, excavators, cranes, forklifts, agricultural machinery, rail maintenance equipment, and railroad vehicles. We are looking for a hands-on professional who takes pride in quality workmanship and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Duties Perform comprehensive diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, air brake systems, suspension components, electrical systems, and driveline components across a variety of heavy equipment and vehicles. Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and services to identify potential issues before they become costly failures. Diagnose and repair railroad vehicles, rail maintenance equipment, and specialized diesel-powered machinery used in rail operations. Perform welding, fabrication, and custom modifications to equipment and components as needed. Repair and service heavy machinery including excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors, agricultural equipment, vocational trucks, and other industrial equipment using schematics and technical manuals. Assist with wheel alignments, tire service, steering and suspension repairs, HVAC repairs, and electrical troubleshooting. Operate trucks, heavy equipment, and railroad vehicles during testing and troubleshooting procedures to verify repairs and diagnose issues accurately. Use computerized diagnostic software and manufacturer-specific tools to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues. Maintain accurate service records, work orders, inspection reports, and repair documentation while ensuring compliance with safety standards and company policies. Collaborate with customers, service advisors, and fellow technicians to provide high-quality service and minimize equipment downtime. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with OSHA and company safety requirements. Qualifications Proven experience as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic; dealership, fleet, railroad, or heavy equipment experience preferred. Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical systems, air brakes, and heavy vehicle maintenance. Experience diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, railroad vehicles, agricultural equipment, or related industrial machinery. Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, fabrication tools, and advanced diagnostic software. Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, service manuals, and technical documentation. Knowledge of DOT inspections, preventive maintenance programs, and fleet maintenance best practices. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and efficiently. Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to safely lift heavy components and work in shop, field, and outdoor environments as needed. Why Join Cahaba Truck & Equipment? Pay:
$30.00 - $36.00 per hour
