Job Description
Build Your Career with Bains Towing & Recovery Bains Towing & Recovery is seeking an experienced, dependable Diesel Mechanic to join our growing maintenance team. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining our fleet of heavy-duty tractor-trailers, trailers, and diesel-powered equipment in a fast-paced shop environment. We're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, values safety, works well with a team, and is looking for a long-term career—not just another job. What You'll Do Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections on Class 8 tractor-trailers. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and air brake system issues. Repair diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, suspension systems, steering components, and cooling systems. Perform brake jobs, wheel seal replacements, suspension repairs, and driveline repairs. Troubleshoot electrical systems using diagnostic software and testing equipment. Complete DOT inspections and ensure all equipment meets federal and state safety standards. Repair and replace components including starters, alternators, batteries, air compressors, and fuel system components. Perform welding and light fabrication when needed. Accurately document repairs, inspections, parts used, and labor performed. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Work closely with management to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime. Assist with emergency repairs as business needs require. What We're Looking For Minimum 2 years of diesel mechanic experience working on heavy-duty trucks or tractor-trailers. Strong understanding of diesel engines and heavy truck systems. Experience diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues. Ability to read wiring diagrams and service manuals. Familiarity with Cummins, Detroit Diesel, PACCAR, Volvo, or similar diesel engine platforms is preferred. Basic computer skills for work order documentation. Ability to safely lift up to 75 pounds. Valid driver's license required. CDL is a plus but not required. ASE or OEM certifications are a plus but not required.
