Job Description

Overview:
K&J Tree Service is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Master Diesel Mechanic to join our team. This position is crucial for maintaining the efficiency, safety, and performance of our heavy equipment fleet, which consists of more than 60 pieces of machinery. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in the maintenance, repair, and rebuilding of contractors' trucks and equipment. This role is well-suited for someone who excels in complex repairs, operates independently, and takes ownership of equipment performance, reliability, and uptime.
Responsibilities :
  • Inspect, maintain, repair, and rebuild heavy-duty diesel equipment, including cranes, chippers, trucks, and specialized tree service machinery.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform advanced repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
  • Perform all types of welding, including oxyacetylene, electric arc, and automatic arc welding.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain detailed service records for all maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, industry standards, and company procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to ensure equipment readiness and availability.
  • Operate independently, managing time and workload to meet operational demands.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of five years of experience in diesel engine repair (advanced experience preferred).
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical diagnostics.
  • Experience working on heavy equipment, trucks, and construction machinery.
  • Welding experience and proficiency required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to safely lift, climb, and work around heavy equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Reliable transportation to and from Hamden, CT.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to high performance
Compensation/Benefits:
  • The employee will be paid $35-$45 based on Experience and Skillset.
  • The employee can enter our company retirement program with a 3% company match after a 90-day probation period.
  • The employee can enter our company medical insurance program with 50% coverage paid by K&J (dental and vision are also available) after a 90-day probation period.
Work Schedule:
  • Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM
  • Every other Tuesday & Thursday, 4:30 AM start time
  • Every other Saturday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM (overtime available and encouraged)
Pay:
$35.00 - $45.00 per hour
