Job Description

GFL Environmental is seeking a Diesel Mechanic Tech to inspect, diagnose, and repair a fleet of diesel trucks and heavy equipment supporting waste and recycling operations. Responsibilities include performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting engines, hydraulics, electrical and braking systems, completing DOT inspections, and ensuring all work meets safety and environmental standards. The mechanic will document work orders, maintain shop cleanliness, collaborate with operations teams to minimize downtime, and respond to occasional road calls. Responsibilities Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel trucks and heavy equipment Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles Troubleshoot and repair engines, hydraulics, electrical and braking systems Conduct DOT and safety inspections to ensure regulatory compliance Document repairs, parts used, and maintenance activities in work orders Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment Collaborate with operations to schedule repairs and minimize downtime Perform occasional road calls for breakdowns or emergency repairs Required Skills Diesel engine diagnostics and repair Hydraulic systems maintenance and repair Electrical systems troubleshooting Brake systems service (air and hydraulic) Preventative maintenance scheduling and execution Use of diagnostic tools and scan equipment Welding and basic fabrication DOT and safety inspection procedures Mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving Maintenance documentation and work order systems
