Our trucks run hard and they run daily — downtime costs us loads. We're looking for an experienced fleet mechanic who can keep equipment on the road and catch problems before they become breakdowns. The Role You'll be the hands-on mechanic responsible for keeping our dump truck fleet safe, DOT-compliant, and working. You'll diagnose, repair, and maintain trucks with minimal supervision and be trusted to make the call on what's road-ready and what isn't. What You'll Do Diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel engines (Detroit, Cummins, Paccar, Mack/Volvo) — no-starts, derates, aftertreatment/DPF and DEF faults, injectors, turbos, cooling and fuel systems Service and repair air brake systems — chambers, slack adjusters, S-cams, valves, air dryers, lines and fittings; perform brake adjustments and air leak-down checks Troubleshoot electrical systems — starting and charging, lighting circuits, sensors, harnesses, ECM/module faults; read wiring diagrams and use diagnostic software Maintain dump-truck-specific systems: Hydraulics and PTO — pumps, wet kits, hoist cylinders, valves, hoses, seals; diagnose slow or non-lifting beds and PTO engagement issues Tarp systems — electric and manual, motors, switches, arms, springs, and tarp replacement Bodies and hardware — tailgate latches and hinges, body pins, liners, vibrators, and bed wear Perform scheduled preventive maintenance: oil and filter service, greasing, fluid checks, air system service, and inspections on a set PM interval Complete DOT annual inspections and pre/post-trip repair items; keep the fleet inspection-ready Perform suspension, steering, driveline, clutch/transmission, differential, and tire/wheel-end work Do welding and fabrication repairs on bodies, brackets, and mounts (MIG/stick) Handle occasional road calls and on-site repairs when a truck goes down in the field Document all repairs, parts used, and hours; track PM schedules and flag recurring failures Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop What You Need 3-5+ years of heavy-duty diesel truck repair experience (Class 7/8); dump truck or vocational/construction fleet experience strongly preferred Proven hands-on ability with diesel engines, air brakes, electrical diagnostics, and hydraulic/PTO systems Experience with tarp systems, hoists, and dump bodies — or closely related vocational equipment Own set of hand tools (shop supplies specialty tools, diagnostic equipment, and heavy equipment) Comfortable with diagnostic laptops and OEM/aftermarket software (JPRO, DDDL, Cummins Insite, or similar) Ability to read wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and service manuals Valid driver's license with clean MVR Able to lift 50+ lbs, work from under and on top of trucks, and work outdoors in all weather Must pass a background check and drug screen Nice to Have CDL Class A or B — or willingness to obtain one. You'll need to move and test-drive trucks, and it's a real plus in this role ASE certifications (T-series) and/or DOT Inspector certification Air conditioning (609) certification Welding and fabrication experience Familiarity with
