Job Description

Tow Truck MechanicJob Summary Watkins Towing & Recovery is seeking a skilled and dependable Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on our fleet of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty tow trucks and support vehicles. The ideal candidate is experienced in diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and DOT inspections. This position plays a critical role in keeping our fleet safe, reliable, and ready for service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, tire inspections, and brake service. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, suspension, steering, and drivetrain issues. Inspect and repair diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, cooling systems, and fuel systems. Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems used on wheel lifts, rollback beds, winches, and wreckers. Conduct DOT safety inspections and ensure all vehicles remain compliant with federal and state regulations. Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records. Order parts and communicate equipment needs to management. Respond to emergency vehicle breakdowns when necessary. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Follow all OSHA, DOT, and company safety policies. Assist with repairs on trailers, shop equipment, and other company vehicles as needed. QualificationsRequired High school diploma or GED. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a heavy-duty truck, diesel, fleet, or automotive mechanic. Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines. Experience with hydraulic systems and electrical diagnostics. Ability to diagnose mechanical issues using diagnostic equipment and hand tools. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair priorities. Preferred Experience working on tow trucks, wreckers, rollback carriers, or commercial trucks. CDL (Class A or B) or willingness to obtain one. ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certification or equivalent technical certifications. Welding and fabrication experience. Experience with Cummins, Freightliner, Ford, International, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Hino, or similar commercial vehicles. Stand, bend, kneel, crawl, climb, and work in confined spaces. Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, or emergency call-outs when fleet repairs are needed. Work Schedule This is a full-time position. Occasional overtime, weekends, and emergency repairs may be required to keep the fleet operational.
