Job Overview Vista Construction & Development is looking for a dependable and motivated Apprentice Mechanic to join our team. This role is primarily focused on supporting the maintenance and upkeep of our dump truck fleet, along with assisting on construction equipment as needed. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to grow their skills in diesel and heavy equipment mechanics while working alongside an experienced lead mechanic in a fast-paced construction environment. You will develop essential skills in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and industrial equipment. This role is perfect for motivated individuals eager to learn the trade, gain practical experience, and build a solid foundation for a rewarding career in heavy machinery maintenance. Requirements At least two years of mechanic experience with appropriate tools Pass pre-employment drug screening Must be able to lift at minimum 50 lbs Responsibilities Assist in diagnosing issues with diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, and electrical components on various heavy equipment. Support the repair and maintenance of construction machinery Learn to interpret schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems effectively. Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on heavy machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety standards. Assist with tire service, brake repairs, alignment adjustments, and hydraulic system repairs. Gain experience in heavy lifting techniques, welding procedures, soldering, and equipment fabrication to support onsite repairs. Skills Basic mechanical knowledge with an eagerness to learn advanced repair techniques. Familiarity with dealership or OEM equipment service procedures is a plus. Ability to read schematics and technical diagrams for troubleshooting purposes. Hands-on experience with automotive diagnostics and electrical systems is highly desirable. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other maintenance tools. Strong problem-solving skills combined with excellent attention to detail. Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and work in various outdoor conditions safely.
