Job Description As a Mobile Diesel Mechanic at Truck Centers, Inc., you'll be a key player in providing exceptional on-site repairs and fleet maintenance for our customers. Working at customer locations or out in the field, you'll handle diagnostics, inspections, repairs, and part replacements, following our standards, OEM specifications, and warranty guidelines. This position will work Monday-Friday during daytime hours, but will need to be available for customers as needed outside of normal hours. The position will work out of our stand-alone parts location in Champaign, IL, but will work out of one of our main locations for the first few months to learn systems and processes before being put into the mobile service truck of their choosing.
What You'll Do:
Perform Routine Maintenance:
Keep vehicles in top shape by handling basic tasks such as filling tanks, checking oil, performing inspections, and ensuring your vehicle is stocked with the tools and parts necessary for efficient repair and maintenance.
Efficient, Quality Repairs:
Complete repair tasks with precision and efficiency, maintaining high standards as per OEM, warranty, and company guidelines.
Diagnostics & Problem-Solving:
Use repair orders, diagnostic tools, and a keen eye to identify issues and execute effective repair plans, bringing vehicles back to optimal condition.
Repair Key Truck Systems:
From engines and transmissions to brakes, HVAC, and electronics, perform both general and complex repairs, covering all major systems. Work with
Certifications:
Apply your certified expertise, including specialized DTNA training and knowledge of engines, transmissions, and vendor product lines, to complete repairs and installations with accuracy.
Documentation & Communication:
Use Dealer Management System and Service Notes to record thorough, organized details of diagnostic findings, repair progress, and work performed, ensuring clear communication with customers and the Service office, and for smooth warranty processing.
Warranty Recovery:
Assess warranty claim status and complete necessary documentation and steps for successful warranty recovery.
Test Repairs:
Conduct road tests to ensure your repairs resolve customer concerns and meet our quality standards. Qualifications What We're Looking For:
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required. A certificate from a diesel tech training program is preferred, or at least 10 years of hands-on experience with heavy-duty truck service in a shop setting.
Licenses & Certifications:
Must have a valid driver's license and meet insurance requirements. A Class A CDL with an air brake endorsement is a big plus. We're also looking for HVAC certification and, ideally, certifications with Cummins IS Series, Allison Transmission, Caterpillar engines, Eaton, and Meritor.
Technical Skills:
Welding and fabrication skills are essential.

Background & Screening:
Must participate in a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
Work Environment:
You'll be working in diverse environments—from our dealership and customer facilities to roadside locations. To succeed, you should be able to repeatedly lift up to 75 lbs. unassisted.
