Job Overview Matt's Auto & Diesel is a steadily growing family-owned small business specializing in light to heavy duty Diesel repair. We are seeking a highly skilled Technician with an emphasis in modern light to medium duty Diesel experience to join our team as a Diesel technician. This role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of light to heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong electrical and mechanical knowledge, experience with medium to heavy trucks and machinery, and the ability to work efficiently and safely on a wide range of applications. This position offers an opportunity to work with diverse applications including farm machinery, construction equipment, light to heavy duty trucks, and vehicle fleets; ensuring optimal performance and safety standards. Responsibilities Perform diagnostics and repairs on electrical systems, diesel engines, diesel exhaust aftertreatment systems, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, steering systems, and air brake systems. Conduct routine maintenance such as fluid changes, preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and serviceable component replacements. Utilize diagnostic service equipment, software, schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issues. Operate and repair heavy equipment including excavators, cranes, forklifts, and tractor-trailers. Fabricate parts or modifications as needed using hand tools, power tools, welding, and soldering techniques. Maintain highly detailed service records and document repairs accurately and concisely. Assist in the assembly and disassembly of various mechanical components for repair or replacement. Ensure that repair work complies with safety standards and industry regulations. Communicate effectively with co-workers. Requirements Proven experience as a Diesel Technician or similar role with at least 5 years of professional experience. Strong knowledge of electrical diagnostics, diesel aftertreatment system diagnostics, mechanical diagnostics, hydraulic system operation, air brake system operation, vehicle maintenance standards, and heavy truck/equipment operation and repair standards. Proficiency with schematics, electrical systems, hydraulics, HVAC systems, and welding techniques. Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, and perform heavy lifting safely. Strong physical dexterity and ability to work safely and efficiently. Experience working with farm machinery, construction equipment, cranes, forklifts, or similar heavy machinery is a plus but is not a direct requirement. Knowledge of diesel engines, diesel aftertreatment systems, transmissions, drivelines, differentials, air brakes, steering and suspension repair. Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail in diagnosing issues accurately. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in various areas pertaining to work. Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a dynamic environment. Ownership of personal tool set and storage system for daily use and willingness to expand tool set as necessary. Valid driver's license required (valid CDL is considered a plus); relevant certifications or ASE certifications are advantageous.
