The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment used in environmental services and field operations. This position helps ensure that company trucks, trailers, pumps, and related equipment remain safe, reliable, and compliant with applicable regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel trucks and company vehicles. Service and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, suspensions, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and air systems. Inspect and maintain trailers, pumps, hoses, tanks, and other environmental service equipment. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and air-system problems. Complete routine oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, tire inspections, and fluid checks. Perform DOT-related vehicle inspections and correct identified safety deficiencies. Respond to equipment breakdowns and provide field repairs when necessary. Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, parts usage, and repair documentation. Identify required parts and communicate repair needs to management. Keep tools, equipment, shop areas, and service vehicles clean, organized, and safe. Follow company safety policies, environmental procedures, and applicable OSHA and DOT requirements. Properly handle and dispose of used oil, fluids, filters, batteries, and other regulated materials. Assist with other shop, fleet, and field duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Previous experience maintaining and repairing diesel trucks and heavy equipment is required. A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Diesel technology or automotive certification is preferred. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred but not required. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record. The employee must remain eligible to operate company vehicles. Knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, air brakes, hydraulic systems, and preventive maintenance practices is required. Applicants must be able to safely use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment. The employee must be dependable, safety-minded, able to manage multiple repair priorities, and capable of working independently or as part of a team. The employee must be willing and able to travel occasionally to company facilities, customer locations, and field job sites. The employee must be available to work overtime, evenings, weekends, or emergency callouts when operational needs require. Applicants must be able to pass any required drug screening, background check, and motor vehicle record review.
Physical Requirements:
The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and handle heavier items with assistance. The employee must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work beneath vehicles or equipment for extended periods. The employee must be able to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions. The employee may work around diesel fuel, lubricants, chemicals, noise, moving equipment, and other typical shop or field conditions. Required personal protective equipment must be worn at all times. Work Schedule The regular work schedule will be based on operational needs. Overtime, weekend work, emergency repairs, and occasional travel may be required.
Pay:
$29.00 - $34.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 50.0 per week
