Overview We are seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in equipment repair and maintenance, with a focus on heavy machinery and vehicles. This role requires hands-on experience and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues efficiently. The Mechanic will play a crucial role in ensuring that all equipment operates safely and effectively. Responsibilities Diagnose, remove, and assemble body and chassis components from any vehicle Clean, inspect, rebuild, and assemble new or original parts Reinstall components and make necessary adjustments Diagnose potential vehicle malfunctions (e.g. using computer diagnostic equipment) Inspect, clean, adjust, tighten, and / or repair minor items such as lights, bulbs, lenses, reflectors Repair items such as kingpins, springs, shocks, leaf springs, spring pins Perform tune-ups Replace and repair brakes, steering repairs, electrical repairs, air conditioning, and heat repairs Replace or repair minor body parts, floors, fenders, and dents Service buses for maintenance Perform minor repairs as requested on daily vehicle inspection reports Perform tire work (e.g., changing, balancing, repairs); lube oil and filter changes; Make minor electrical repairs; replace mirrors; minor road service; service fuels and fluids Maintain maintenance and repair computer and paper records on vehicles Respond to emergency situations during and outside regular work hours Service buses and transportation equipment Substitute as a bus driver when needed Transport various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies) Assist in the starting of vehicles during winter months Coordinate with Transportation Manager on warranty and recall service Be "on call" outside of regular work hours as necessary for emergency breakdowns and service Inspect and repair vehicles prior to Registry of Motor Vehicle inspections Maintain inventory of parts and supplies Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Minimum of one year experience in diesel engine repair and maintenance, preferably with school buses or similar vehicles High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in diesel mechanics is preferred Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of protective safety equipment Must be able to maintain mechanical certificates as required by the state of Michigan State or ASE certifications
