Job Description

Knife River is seeking a Diesel Technician to maintain and repair our construction fleet, including trucks and heavy equipment. In this safety-focused, team-driven role, you'll perform diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems to keep critical infrastructure projects moving. Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, heavy trucks, and construction equipment Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and safety checks on fleet vehicles and machinery Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems using diagnostic tools Document work performed, parts used, and maintenance records accurately Collaborate with operators and supervisors to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime Comply with all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company standards Assist with emergency breakdowns in the yard or field as needed Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop work area Required Skills Diesel engine diagnostics and repair Heavy truck and equipment maintenance Hydraulic system troubleshooting Electrical system diagnostics Use of diagnostic software and tools Brake and suspension repair Preventive maintenance procedures Reading technical manuals and schematics Welding and basic fabrication Safety and PPE compliance
