JOB OVERVIEW GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs skilled mechanical work in the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of fleet equipment. With regular attendance, this position conducts preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs while adhering to safety standards and specifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Perform repairs and maintenance on heavy trucks and equipment to minimize vehicle downtime and to provide for safe operation. Complete preventative maintenance schedules for all vehicles and mechanical equipment. Overhaul vehicle systems (e.g., hydraulics, climate control, axles, transmission, etc.). Make recommendations on outsourcing repairs based on cost and time efficiency. Provide emergency field assistance to disabled equipment as needed. Review work orders and refer to related repair manuals for references as necessary; process work orders per departmental guidelines. Install radio equipment and specialty lights in heavy trucks and equipment. Test repairs to ensure proper operation before vehicle is released. Perform minor body repair, touch up, and related work. Perform fabrication and welding duties as needed. Clean, pressure wash, and/or sandblast equipment. Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or
G.E.D. 3
years of work experience as a heavy-duty truck/equipment mechanic in a full-service diesel shop. Have and maintain a valid Driver's License with a CDL-B endorsement (or ability to obtain endorsement within 3 months of hire), as well as meet eligibility requirements of "acceptable driving standards" as defined by the County. Must supply and maintain own tools.
