JOB DESCRIPTION

Niagara Falls Coach Lines, Inc. is currently seeking dependable and mechanically inclined individuals to join our maintenance team as Diesel Mechanics and Mechanic Assistants/Diesel Mechanic Helpers . We are looking for both experienced Diesel Mechanics and individuals with mechanical experience who are interested in developing their skills in diesel and fleet maintenance. Our maintenance team is responsible for keeping our school buses and transportation vehicles safe, reliable, and properly maintained. Successful candidates should have strong attention to detail, an aptitude for problem-solving, the ability to follow directions, and a willingness to work as part of a team.

DIESEL MECHANIC

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing school buses and other company vehicles. Diesel Mechanic Responsibilities

• Conduct regular preventative maintenance on diesel buses, vehicles, machinery, and related systems.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical problems.
• Inspect buses and vehicles to identify maintenance and safety concerns.
• Perform repairs and maintenance on diesel engines and vehicle systems.
• Perform brake and air brake, suspension, steering, electrical, cooling, fuel, exhaust, and drivetrain repairs.
• Assemble, repair, and replace mechanical components as necessary.
• Examine vehicles and perform diagnostic testing to determine mechanical and operational problems.
• Develop an appropriate plan of action for maintenance and repair tasks.
• Complete preventative maintenance and vehicle inspections.
• Maintain accurate work logs, repair records, and maintenance records.
• Monitor parts and maintenance inventory.
• Identify parts and supplies needed for repairs and notify management when additional parts are required.
• Perform vehicle assessments and identify issues that may prevent a vehicle from passing inspection.
• Assist with preparing vehicles for NYS inspections.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized maintenance shop.
• Properly use and maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Provide direction and assistance to Mechanic Assistants/Helpers when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned. Diesel Mechanic Requirements
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar mechanical or diesel mechanic position preferred .
• Vocational school, trade school, or formal diesel/mechanical training preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, automotive systems, and heavy-duty vehicle mechanical systems.
• Experience with buses, trucks, school buses, or fleet vehicles preferred.
• Knowledge of vehicle diagnostic equipment and mechanical systems.
• Strong attention to detail with an aptitude for problem-solving.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate repairs.
• Must be able to take direction and work independently when appropriate.
• Must be willing to assist with other duties as needed.
• Must have your own mechanic's tools.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Must successfully pass a physical abilities examination.

MECHANIC ASSISTANT / DIESEL MECHANIC HELPER

The Mechanic Assistant/Diesel Mechanic Helper works under the direct supervision of maintenance mechanics and assists with the maintenance, inspection, and repair of school buses and other transportation vehicles. This position is an excellent opportunity for an individual with mechanical experience who wants to develop their skills in diesel and fleet maintenance. Mechanic Assistant Responsibilities

• Assist maintenance mechanics with vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
• Perform basic mechanical and maintenance tasks under supervision.
• Assist with oil changes, lubrication, fluid checks, and preventative maintenance.
• Assist with tire, brake, suspension, and other repairs.
• Help mechanics with tools, parts, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist with diagnosing mechanical problems under the direction of a qualified mechanic.
• Assist with preparing buses and vehicles for service.
• Report mechanical or safety concerns to the maintenance mechanic.
• Keep the maintenance shop and work areas clean, safe, and organized.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Take direction from senior maintenance personnel.
• Work cooperatively with other members of the maintenance team.
• Assist with other maintenance duties as assigned. Mechanic Assistant Requirements
• Must be mechanically inclined.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role preferred .
• Previous automotive, diesel, truck, bus, or mechanical experience is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail with an aptitude for problem-solving.
• Must be able to take direction and follow instructions.
• Must be able to work with limited supervision once properly trained.
• Must be dependable and punctual.
• Must be willing to help with other duties as needed.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Must successfully pass a physical abilities examination.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates for either position may be required to successfully complete applicable pre-employment screening, including:

• Background check
• DOT-required drug and alcohol testing, when applicable

DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing:

Employees who perform DOT-regulated safety-sensitive functions must comply with applicable federal drug and alcohol testing requirements. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 applies to DOT-regulated testing. DOT regulations prohibit marijuana use by employees performing DOT-regulated safety-sensitive functions, including marijuana use that may otherwise be permitted under state law.
