Position Overview 4 day work week! We are seeking an experienced, elite Lead Heavy-Duty Diesel Technician with advanced diagnostics and bumper-to-bumper repair capabilities. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, overhauling, and repairing a fleet of Class 7 & 8 commercial vehicles, including semi-tractors, vocational dump trucks, and heavy-haul trailers. A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is prefered for road-testing equipment, validating repairs under load, and managing road service/drop-offs when needed.

Key Responsibilities Advanced Diagnostics:

Perform comprehensive electrical, mechanical, and computerized diagnostics using OEM and aftermarket software (e.g., Cummins Insite, Detroit Diagnostic Link, CAT ET, Allison DOC, Bendix, Eaton ServiceRanger).

Engine & Drivetrain Repair:

Execute in-chassis and out-of-chassis engine rebuilds, cylinder head replacements, transmission overhauls, differential repairs, and clutch adjustments.

Vocational & Hydraulic Systems:

Inspect, diagnose, and rebuild hydraulic systems common to dump trucks (PTOs, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, hoist mechanisms, and valve bodies).

Emissions & Aftertreatment:

Troubleshoot, clean, and repair complex modern emissions systems, including

DPF, DEF

dosing, SCR, EGR circuits, and NOx sensors.

Chassis, Suspension & Air Brakes:

Diagnose and repair foundation brakes, air brake circuits, ABS systems, steering components, heavy vocational suspensions (Hendrickson, Chalmers, walking beam, air ride), and fifth wheels.

Road Testing & Validation:

Utilize your CDL to safely road-test vehicles post-repair to verify operational integrity, brake safety, and performance under load.

Safety & Compliance:

Perform annual DOT/Federal annual inspections; ensure all fleet vehicles meet FMCSA and state safety regulations.

Qualifications & Requirements Experience:

Minimum 5-7+ years of hands-on experience in heavy-duty commercial truck maintenance (Class 7 & 8 tractors and dump trucks).

License:

Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean MVR.

Diagnostic Proficiency:

Proven track record utilizing laptop-based diagnostic software to trace complex multiplexed wiring, CAN-bus issues, and sensor faults.

Tools:

Must possess a complete set of professional heavy-duty hand tools, air/pneumatic/cordless power tools, and diagnostic multimeters (large shop diagnostic laptops and heavy shop tooling provided). Certifications (Preferred / Highly Regarded): ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck (T1-T8) certifications. OEM factory certifications (Cummins, Detroit Diesel, PACCAR, Mack/Volvo, Caterpillar). EPA Section 609 MVAC certification for commercial A/C systems. New York State Inspection license Physical Requirements Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75-100 lbs unassisted. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and stand for extended periods in shop or field conditions.
