Heavy-Duty Diesel and Fleet MechanicPosition Summary We are seeking an experienced and dependable Heavy-Duty Diesel and Fleet Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair a diverse fleet of heavy equipment and company vehicles. The fleet includes heavy-duty trucks, diesel tractors, heavy-haul trailers, specialized transportation equipment, construction and farm equipment, hydraulic systems, service trucks, pickup trucks, passenger vehicles, and other company-owned vehicles. The ideal candidate can work independently, accurately diagnose mechanical problems, and perform safe, high-quality repairs that minimize downtime. Primary Responsibilities Inspect, diagnose, service, and repair heavy-duty diesel trucks and tractors. Maintain and repair the company's complete vehicle fleet, including service trucks, pickup trucks, passenger vehicles, vans, and other company-owned vehicles. Service and repair trailers, heavy-haul equipment, construction machinery, forklifts, farm equipment, generators, and other specialized equipment. Diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline engines. Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, air-brake, hydraulic, steering, suspension, cooling, fuel, transmission, and drivetrain systems. Maintain and repair hydraulic power units, pumps, cylinders, hoses, valves, and related components. Perform preventive maintenance, oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, tire inspections, fluid checks, and scheduled services. Inspect and repair brakes, tires, lighting, safety equipment, and other vehicle components. Use computerized diagnostic tools, service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical information. Perform DOT-related inspections and help keep vehicles and equipment compliant with applicable safety requirements. Track maintenance schedules, mileage, service intervals, registrations, and inspection deadlines. Respond to breakdowns and emergency repair needs when required. Maintain accurate inspection, maintenance, repair, parts, and service records. Identify unsafe vehicles or equipment and promptly communicate repair priorities to management. Coordinate with drivers, operators, and management to schedule maintenance and minimize downtime. Order and organize necessary parts, fluids, tools, tires, and shop supplies. Perform welding, fabrication, and metal repairs when qualified and necessary. Keep the shop, service vehicles, tools, and work areas clean, safe, and organized. Follow all workplace safety requirements and company procedures. Perform other vehicle and equipment maintenance duties as assigned. Required Qualifications At least three years of professional experience repairing heavy-duty diesel trucks, fleet vehicles, or comparable equipment. Knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, air brakes, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, steering, suspension, cooling systems, transmissions, and drivetrains. Experience servicing both heavy equipment and standard company vehicles. Ability to read wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, service manuals, and equipment specifications. Ability to safely operate diagnostic equipment, power tools, vehicle lifts, and shop machinery. Ability to independently diagnose problems and complete repairs correctly and efficiently. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to provide and maintain commonly required mechanic hand tools. Dependable attendance, organizational skills, and communication skills. Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and accurate documentation. Preferred Qualifications A valid CDL is a plus but is not required. ASE or manufacturer certifications. Experience with heavy-haul tractors, multi-axle trailers, modular transporters, and specialized transportation equipment. Experience maintaining pickup trucks, passenger vehicles, service trucks, and commercial fleet vehicles. Experience with cranes, forklifts, construction equipment, or agricultural machinery. Welding, fabrication, and metalworking experience. Experience conducting DOT inspections. Familiarity with computerized fleet-maintenance and diagnostic systems. Physical Requirements Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work underneath vehicles and equipment. Regularly lift and carry tools, parts, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Heavier items must be handled using appropriate assistance or lifting equipment. Work indoors and outdoors in changing weather conditions. Work around diesel fumes, oils, grease, noise, moving equipment, and other typical shop conditions. Safely enter, exit, climb onto, and work around vehicles, trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment. Wear all required personal protective equipment. Schedule Full-time, generally Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime, weekends, travel, roadside assistance, and emergency repairs as needed.
