Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Diesel & Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair our company fleet of commercial trucks, construction vehicles, trailers, and heavy equipment. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, mechanically skilled, and capable of diagnosing and completing repairs independently to keep our equipment safe, reliable, and operational. This is a hands-on position responsible for both preventative maintenance and equipment repairs , with a strong focus on reducing downtime and identifying potential problems before they result in costly breakdowns.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel trucks, construction vehicles, trailers, and heavy equipment.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance, inspections, oil changes, lubrication, and scheduled services.
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, brakes, steering, suspension, and drivetrain components .
- Diagnose equipment failures and determine the appropriate repair solution.
- Repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective parts and components.
- Perform inspections to identify potential mechanical issues before equipment failures occur.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform field repairs when necessary.
- Maintain accurate service, maintenance, and repair records for company vehicles and equipment.
- Track upcoming preventative maintenance and service requirements.
- Communicate equipment conditions, repair needs, parts requirements, and anticipated downtime to management.
- Assist with maintaining an organized inventory of commonly used parts, fluids, filters, and shop supplies.
- Keep the shop, service vehicles, tools, parts, and work areas clean and organized.
- Follow company safety procedures and properly operate shop and service equipment.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of diesel mechanic or heavy-equipment repair experience preferred.
- Experience working on construction equipment and commercial diesel trucks strongly preferred .
- Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, brakes, drivetrain components, and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical problems independently.
- Ability to prioritize repairs based on safety, operational needs, and equipment downtime.
- Must have own basic mechanic hand tools.
- Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including lifting approximately 50-75 lbs.
- Valid driver's license required.
- CDL is a plus.
- Diesel, ASE, manufacturer, or other related certifications are a plus.
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
- Must be dependable, organized, and able to work with limited supervision.
