MASTER DIESEL MECHANIC

Iron Rig Diesel Greenville, Texas Full-Time | Competitive Pay Based on Experience Iron Rig Diesel is seeking an experienced Master Diesel Mechanic / Shop Manager to lead the daily operations of our heavy-duty truck repair facility in Greenville, Texas. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can manage technicians and shop workflow while also diagnosing difficult mechanical, electrical, emissions, and drivability problems. The right candidate must be comfortable working on Class 7 and Class 8 trucks and must be highly proficient with computer-based diagnostic equipment and software. We service Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Volvo, Mack, International, Western Star, and other major commercial truck brands. Key Responsibilities Manage the shop's daily workflow and assign work to technicians based on skill level and job priority. Perform advanced computer diagnostics and determine the root cause of failures. Diagnose and repair Detroit, Cummins, PACCAR, Volvo/Mack, and International engine platforms. Use diagnostic programs such as Cummins INSITE, Detroit DiagnosticLink, PACCAR DAVIE4, Volvo Premium Tech Tool, ServiceMaxx, JPRO, or comparable systems. Diagnose electrical, engine, transmission, aftertreatment, emissions, air-brake, suspension, HVAC, and driveline problems. Troubleshoot DPF, DEF, SCR, EGR, regeneration, derate, and check-engine-light issues. Assist technicians with difficult repairs and provide training when necessary. Review technician findings, repair plans, labor estimates, and parts requirements before work begins. Communicate clearly with customers regarding diagnostic findings, recommended repairs, costs, and completion times. Monitor technician productivity, billed hours, job progress, and vehicle turnaround times. Ensure labor, parts, diagnostic results, and repair notes are accurately documented on every work order. Inspect completed repairs and perform quality-control checks before trucks are released. Reduce comebacks by making sure repairs are properly diagnosed and completed correctly the first time. Coordinate with the service writer, parts vendors, customers, and ownership. Help order parts and control unnecessary or incorrect parts purchases. Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and professional shop. Enforce company procedures and OSHA, DOT, and shop-safety requirements. Help recruit, train, coach, and evaluate technicians. Support emergency repairs and roadside-service operations when necessary. Keep ownership informed about shop production, staffing, major repairs, customer concerns, and operational problems. Required Qualifications Minimum of 7 years of verifiable heavy-duty diesel repair experience preferred. Previous experience as a shop manager, foreman, lead technician, or master technician strongly preferred. Strong experience working on Class 7 and Class 8 commercial trucks. Advanced computer diagnostic and electrical troubleshooting ability. Ability to accurately diagnose problems instead of simply replacing parts. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, aftertreatment systems, air brakes, electrical systems, transmissions, suspensions, HVAC systems, and drivetrains. Ability to read wiring diagrams, service manuals, fault-code information, and OEM troubleshooting procedures. Ability to manage technicians, prioritize repairs, and keep jobs moving through the shop. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate professionally with customers, vendors, technicians, and management. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must provide personal hand tools appropriate for a master-level diesel technician. Must be dependable, accountable, and able to work with limited supervision. Must be able to pass any required background check, driving-record review, or drug screening. Preferred Qualifications ASE Medium/Heavy Truck certifications or ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician status. CDL Class A or B. Factory or dealership training involving Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Volvo, Mack, International, Cummins, Detroit, or PACCAR. Experience operating a commercial truck repair shop or fleet-maintenance department. Experience with estimates, repair orders, technician time tracking, warranty documentation, and parts management. Welding and fabrication experience is a plus. Experience diagnosing trailers and refrigeration or auxiliary systems is a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds when necessary. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work underneath commercial trucks. Ability to safely operate lifts, jacks, diagnostic equipment, shop tools, and commercial vehicles. Ability to work in a commercial repair-shop environment and varying Texas temperatures.
