DIESEL FLEET MECHANIC

Job Description

Job Summary Join our dynamic team as a Diesel Fleet Mechanic, where your expertise in heavy equipment and vehicle repair will keep our fleet running smoothly and efficiently. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with a wide range of diesel-powered trucks. You will be responsible for diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and ensuring all equipment operates safely and reliably. Your mechanical skills and attention to detail will directly contribute to the productivity and safety of our operations. Duties Conduct thorough diagnostics on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, air brakes, suspension components, and electrical systems. Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire service, brake repairs, shock replacement, and equipment inspections to prevent breakdowns. Repair and fabricate parts as needed using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication techniques to ensure optimal functioning of dump trucks, road tractors and belly dump trailers. Troubleshoot complex mechanical systems including hydraulics, HVAC systems in heavy trucks, and electronic controls to identify root causes efficiently. Maintain detailed service records for all repairs performed on fleet vehicles and equipment; interpret schematics for accurate troubleshooting. Assist with heavy lifting tasks and perform welding or soldering work when fabricating or repairing parts. Ensure compliance with safety standards related to vehicle maintenance such as air brake systems and vehicle systems inspection protocols. Experience Proven experience working as a heavy equipment mechanic or diesel mechanic within a dealership environment or similar setting. Hands-on experience with diagnostics tools and interpreting schematics for complex mechanical or electrical systems. Demonstrated ability to repair a variety of vehicles including trucks (tractor-trailers) Skilled in fabrication techniques using welding equipment; familiar with power tools for assembly and maintenance tasks. Knowledge of heavy truck repair procedures including transmission work, suspension adjustments, tire service, and alignment processes. Strong understanding of hydraulics, HVAC systems in large vehicles or machinery, and automotive electrical system repair. Ability to lift heavy components safely during repairs; excellent mechanical knowledge combined with customer service skills to communicate effectively with team members.
