Under the direction of the Fleet & Facilities Manager and in compliance with Utah Law and Fire District Procedures, this FLSA non-exempt position performs skilled maintenance and repair of heavy and light duty equipment, and other mechanical work as assigned. Work involves diagnosing and repairing firefighting apparatus, emergency response vehicles, light fleet vehicles, and related equipment. This position may be required to participate in after hours and weekend call-out work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs inspections and maintenance and repairs on light, medium and heavy duty vehicles. Diagnoses and repairs gasoline and diesel engines, centrifugal pumps, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, steering and suspension, drive trains, automatic transmissions, air brake and hydraulic brake systems, heating and air conditioning systems. Occasional welding and fabrication. Safely drive vehicles over 10,000 lbs. Comply with Park City Fire District policies and procedures. Work safely inside the shop and out in field. Order parts and supplies. Maintain a clean and organized shop area and parts room. Enter work order data in a fleet management software program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Must be (21) twenty-one years of age or older. Graduation from a two-year vocational program with a mechanic certificate or three years of experience as a mechanic. No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years. Must be a citizen of the United States at time of hire, or provide proof of appropriate work permit. Must be able to read and write the English language. Must be of good moral character and of temperate and industrious habits. Must have the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Special Requirements Class A or Class B CDL license or must obtain within 6 months of employment. Qualified Inspector for the Utah Vehicle Inspection Program or must obtain within one year of employment. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certifications are preferred and required to obtain in first year of employment.
