Position Overview Knight Transport LLC is seeking an experienced Truck Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair commercial motor vehicles in our fleet. This is not an entry level or training position . Applicants must already have the hands on diesel truck repair experience, technical knowledge, and shop skills required to perform the job independently. safety standards. This position is best suited for a mechanic with proven experience working on Class 8 Heavy haul trucks, diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, suspension, steering, drivetrain components, and preventative maintenance. FMCSA requires motor carriers to systematically inspect, repair, and maintain commercial motor vehicles under their control, and brake inspectors must be qualified to understand and perform assigned brake inspection/service tasks. Key Responsibilities Perform inspections, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on commercial diesel trucks and related equipment.

Expected duties include:

Diagnose and repair diesel engine issues, including fuel, cooling, exhaust, intake, emissions, and performance related problems Perform preventative maintenance services, including oil changes, filters, fluid checks, lubrication, inspections, and scheduled service intervals Inspect, diagnose, and repair air brake systems, including chambers, slack adjusters, drums, shoes, valves, air lines, ABS components, and related systems Inspect and repair steering and suspension systems, including kingpins, tie rods, bushings, shocks, springs, air bags, and related components Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including batteries, starters, alternators, lighting, wiring, sensors, relays, fuses, and charging systems Diagnose and repair drivetrain components, including clutches, transmissions, differentials, driveline components, U joints, and related systems Perform DOT related inspections and identify out-of-service defects or safety concerns Use diagnostic software, scan tools, meters, and shop equipment to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems Repair or replace worn, defective, or damaged parts according to manufacturer standards and safe repair practices Complete accurate repair orders, inspection forms, DVIR follow-ups, and maintenance documentation Communicate clearly with drivers, shop leadership, and operations regarding equipment status and repair timelines Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Follow all company safety procedures, DOT/FMCSA requirements, and shop best practices Diesel technicians are commonly expected to inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, engines, and other vehicle systems; interpret diagnostic results; and repair or replace malfunctioning mechanical or electrical components. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must already meet these requirements to be considered: Proven experience as a diesel mechanic working on commercial trucks, preferably Class 8 heavy haul tractors Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, air brakes, electrical systems, suspension, steering, drivetrain, and preventative maintenance Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues without basic on-the job training Ability to safely perform brake inspections, maintenance, and repairs in accordance with applicable FMCSA standards Ability to read and understand repair manuals, service information, wiring diagrams, diagnostic reports, and work orders Experience using diagnostic tools, scan tools, multimeters, hand tools, power tools, air tools, and shop equipment Ability to complete accurate repair documentation and inspection reports Valid driver's license Must have own basic mechanic tools Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a shop/yard environment Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety Reliable attendance and ability to work independently Preferred Qualifications CDL preferred, but not required ASE certifications preferred DOT annual inspection qualification preferred Brake inspector qualification or documented brake repair experience preferred Welding/fabrication experience preferred Experience with flatbed trucking equipment preferred Experience with emissions/aftertreatment systems preferred Experience with diagnostic platforms for major diesel truck manufacturers preferred Skills & Competencies Strong diesel truck diagnostic ability Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Strong understanding of DOT safety standards and roadworthiness requirements Good communication skills with drivers and operations Ability to prioritize repairs based on safety, downtime, and operational need Strong documentation habits Problem solving mindset Dependable, organized, and safety-focused Work Environment Shop and outdoor yard environment Exposure to weather conditions, noise, diesel exhaust, grease, oil, and heavy equipment Use of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts/jacks, and shop machinery Physical work including standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting, and working under/around commercial vehicles Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly pay based on verified experience Overtime opportunities available Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance Paid time off Paid holidays Stable fleet operation with consistent work Why Join Knight Transport LLC Established company with long term stability Safety focused fleet operation Consistent commercial truck maintenance work Team focused shop and operations environment Opportunity to work on real fleet equipment, not dealership flat rate work Direct impact on keeping drivers safe and equipment road ready Important Note This position requires prior diesel truck mechanic experience.
