Job Description

Waste Connections is hiring a Swing Shift Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, and repair our refuse truck fleet. You'll perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulics, brakes, and electrical systems, and complete DOT and safety inspections. Working on a swing shift, you'll support safe, reliable operations that keep essential waste and recycling services running. Responsibilities Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel trucks and refuse equipment Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and safety inspections Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, brake, and electrical systems Document all repairs, parts used, and maintenance in work orders Ensure compliance with DOT, company, and safety regulations Collaborate with drivers and dispatch to prioritize repairs Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop work area Support environmental and waste-handling standards Operate tools, lifts, and diagnostic equipment safely Work swing shift hours with occasional overtime as needed Required Skills Diesel engine diagnostics Heavy truck and equipment repair Hydraulic systems maintenance Air brake systems repair Electrical troubleshooting (12 V/24 V) Preventive maintenance inspections Use of diagnostic software and scan tools Welding and fabrication basics DOT and safety compliance knowledge Reading technical manuals and schematics
