An Electrical Substation or Relay Repairer works at an electrical substation and operates equipment that controls the flow of electricity. Maintains and repairs relays or switches in a system that allows electricity from a power station to travel through the substation out to the distribution system and to customers.

What You'll Do Perform commissioning, testing, and validation of electrical systems and protection & control schemes Troubleshoot electrical circuits, control systems, wiring, and system issues Conduct functional testing and inspections prior to system energization Read and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay logic drawings Support substation, transmission, and power distribution projects Utilize relay testing equipment, multimeters, and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve issues Document testing results, findings, and corrective actions Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and field teams during commissioning activities Required Qualifications 3+ years of hands-on electrical field experience Experience performing commissioning, testing, or troubleshooting of electrical systems Experience with Protection & Control (P&C), utility power systems, substations, or power distribution infrastructure Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and single-line drawings Valid California Driver's License High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Ability to travel and work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed Ability to lift up to 100 pounds Preferred Qualifications Utility industry experience IBEW membership Substation, relay testing, or SCADA experience Military electrical experience, particularly Navy power systems backgrounds OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certifications Experience working with utility contractors or commissioning vendors Why This Opportunity Stands Out Competitive hourly compensation Consistent overtime opportunities Work on critical utility infrastructure projects Exposure to large-scale grid modernization programs Long-term career growth within the utility industry Hands-on field work supporting transmission, distribution, and substation systems Starting at $82.53 per Hour salary.
