Role:
The Senior Substation Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the reliable operation and maintenance of electrical substations within the manufacturing sector. This position is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of high-voltage electrical equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and protective relays. The role demands a deep understanding of electrical systems to support continuous power distribution and minimize downtime. The Senior Substation Technician collaborates closely with engineering teams to implement upgrades and ensure compliance with safety and industry standards. Ultimately, this position contributes to the overall efficiency and safety of manufacturing operations by maintaining optimal substation performance.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent with completion of an electrical apprenticeship or technical training program. Minimum of 5 years of experience working with high-voltage electrical equipment in substations or related environment. Strong knowledge of electrical theory, substation equipment, and safety protocols. A strong proficiency with reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites within the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field. Certification as a Journeyman Electrician or equivalent industry certification. Experience with SCADA systems and digital protective relays. Familiarity with NFPA 70E and OSHA electrical safety standards. Proven leadership skills with experience mentoring junior technicians. Proficiency with setting switches, doing buss work, hanging jumpers, erecting steel structures, cabinet work, etc. (in a high voltage substation)
Responsibilities:
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs on substation equipment to ensure operational reliability. Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults using specialized testing equipment and technical documentation. Install, calibrate, and maintain protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and associated control systems. Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to plan and execute substation upgrades and modifications. Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards, maintaining detailed records of maintenance activities.
