DUTIES The Assistant Control Systems Technician will perform duties such as: 1. Assisting employees of higher classifications. 2. Assisting in the verification and correcting of wiring diagrams, schematics, and equipment panel layouts to conform to engineering standards. 3. Assisting in the verification that equipment received and ordered is in accordance with engineering specifications and standards. 4. Acquiring and maintaining competent working knowledge of safety rules, first aid, fire fighting, and associated equipment. 5. Assisting in servicing digital fault recorders, oscillographs, changing date/time stamp, installing and removing film, and operating necessary test switches to energize or de-energize oscillograph elements. 6. Assisting in the proper labeling of various relays, transducers, test switches, switchgears, circuit breakers, transformers, and all associated equipment, during initial installations. 7. Acting as a safety person during high voltage testing. 8. Assisting in installing, testing, calibrating and maintaining weather and environmental monitoring equipment. 9. Assisting in installing, servicing, repairing and calibrating all types of meters, transducers, satellite communication and recording instruments associated with data acquisition for the Energy Management System. 10. Driving company vehicles in the performance of duties. 11. Maintaining work equipment and areas in a clean orderly condition; continuously observing Company safety rules and practices; checking condition of safety equipment, attending safety meetings, becoming familiar with safety manuals, rules and special procedures prescribed by the Company. 12. Actively pursuing necessary training for advancement to the next higher job within the promotional sequence, including familiarization with general switching instructions, lockout and tag out procedures. 13. Performing other similar or less skilled work as assigned or directed. The Assistant Control Systems Technician will perform the following duties under close supervision: 1. Assisting in the calculations involving current, voltage, phase angle, and impedance, power factor and capacitance using vector analysis and other various electrical concepts to perform these calculations. 2. Assisting in servicing energized equipment, including diagnosing the cause of faulty operations of solid state or Electro-mechanical voltage regulators, including voltage level control equipment on transformers equipped with automatic tap changers. 3. Assisting in conducting overhaul tests on network and underground voltage transformers. 4. Assisting in the performance of high voltage testing, such as hi-potting and power factor testing, in which the employee is in close proximity to voltage exceeding 10kV. The Assistant Control Systems Technician will perform the following duties under close supervision and occasionally under directive supervision: 1. Assisting in the calibration and maintenance of system protective relays and test equipment, including the high voltage dielectric testing of various insulating oils. 2. Assisting in the organization of substation and generating station data and various databases, including drawings, wire lists, relay cards and historical records of test instruments, various system protection devices, equipment overhauled and components replaced. 3. Assisting in the acceptance tests on new or used substation and generation plant protective devices. The devices may be Electro-mechanical, solid state or microprocessor. 4. Assisting in installing, maintaining and repairing supervisory control, data acquisition, energy management, load control and remote alarming equipment, master and remote terminal units, and associated transducers and sensing equipment. 5. Assisting in servicing and repairing computers, relays, electric and electronic subassemblies and test equipment, by checking and replacing faulty integrated circuits, semiconductors, capacitors, resistors, transformers and other components used in power line carriers, remote terminal units, PLCs and the Energy Management System. 6. Assisting in installing, inspecting, adjusting, maintaining and testing of line traps, tuning units, carrier and protective transfer trip equipment. 7. Assisting in installing, inspecting, testing, repairing, cleaning, calibrating, adjusting and maintaining electronic devices for other departments, such as radio, video monitors, intercoms, power supplies, uninterruptible power supplies, converters, smoke and fire detectors, microprocessors, peripherals, keyboards and emergency generators. 8. Assisting in installing, servicing, testing, calibrating and repairing electronic circuits, metering devices, recording equipment, data link equipment and other devices and equipment associated with the Energy Management System. 9. Assisting in the installation, testing and repair of leased line, fiber optic, microwave, satellite radio and cellular communication systems and mediums used for supervisory control, telemetry, and system protection schemes.
