Job Description

The City of Orrville's Power Plant seeks applicants for a full-time Utility Worker. The position we are hiring for is semiskilled work in the Maintenance and Operation of high-pressure steam boilers, turbines, fuel and ash systems and other equipment in an electrical power generation plant. On the job training combined with off-site education, provides Utility Workers the opportunities to maintain and operate our plant. Working a back shift may be required. The pay range is $24.99 - $31.23, plus benefits.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, preferably supplemented by specialized vocational training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the role. Some knowledge of mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems preferred. Must be a United States Citizen or have legally declared their intentions of becoming a United States Citizen. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation and be drug free.
Military Credit:
Applicants who have been honorably discharged from active duty in the armed forces of the United States are eligible to receive an additional credit of 10% if they receive a qualifying (passing) score of 70%. A copy of your DD-214 must be submitted along with the application. No credit will be given if the appropriate documentation is received after the deadline.

Exam Information:
Exam will take place on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 6:00 pm at Schmid Hall, 501 Hall Street, Orrville, Ohio. Doors to the building will open at 5:50 pm and the exam will start promptly at 6:00 pm. Allow 1 hour for the exam. To be admitted to the exam, you must show a valid Ohio Driver's License upon arrival. Calculators will be provided, if necessary. Please remember the date, time and location of the exam.
