Senior Field Service Technician - Automation, Controls & Global Travel South Bend, Indiana | Full-Time | Up to 75% Global Travel Take Your Technical Career Beyond the Shop Floor Are you the person others call when a machine goes down? We are seeking a Senior Field Service Technician to support the installation, startup, commissioning, and service of highly engineered manufacturing and automation systems at customer facilities throughout North America and around the world. What You'll Do As a Senior Field Service Technician, you'll serve as a key technical resource for customers and internal engineering teams by: Installing, commissioning, and supporting advanced manufacturing and welding systems worldwide. Troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, robotics, and automation-related issues. Diagnosing equipment performance problems and implementing corrective actions in the field. Interfacing directly with plant maintenance teams, engineers, operators, and leadership personnel. Reading and interpreting electrical schematics, PLC logic, technical manuals, and mechanical drawings. Performing machine startup, process validation, and equipment optimization activities. Providing customer training and technical support during installations and service visits. Collaborating with engineering teams to identify root causes and improve system performance. Representing the organization professionally while supporting customers throughout the world. Qualifications Successful candidates will bring a strong troubleshooting background with experience supporting industrial equipment, automation systems, or manufacturing operations.
Preferred Background Includes:
5+ years of experience in field service, industrial maintenance, automation, controls, manufacturing, military technical operations, or related technical environments. Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capabilities. Experience working with PLC-controlled equipment and industrial automation systems. Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation. Hands-on experience with industrial controls, drives, motors, sensors, robotics, hydraulics, and pneumatics. Familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar PLC platforms preferred. Strong customer-facing communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently in dynamic field environments. Valid passport or ability to obtain one. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 75%.
