•$90,000, depending on qualifications and experience Summary The Field Service Engineer I applies advanced engineering knowledge and principles to evaluate, install, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and support Sonablate medical-device systems at customer locations. This position requires independent technical analysis and professional judgment in evaluating equipment performance, diagnosing complex electromechanical and system-level problems, interpreting technical and diagnostic information, and determining appropriate corrective actions within established engineering specifications, quality-system requirements, and regulatory standards. The Field Service Engineer I works independently in the field while collaborating with Service, Engineering, Quality, clinical personnel, and customers to ensure the safe, reliable, and effective operation of Sonablate equipment. The position requires significant travel and may require service support outside normal business hours based on customer, procedural, and business needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities ✓ Apply engineering principles and technical knowledge to independently evaluate equipment performance and diagnose complex system, electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and software-related issues. ✓ Analyze diagnostic information, equipment behavior, system performance, and customer-reported concerns to determine root causes and appropriate corrective actions. ✓ Exercise independent technical judgment in determining appropriate troubleshooting methods, service solutions, repairs, adjustments, and escalation requirements. ✓ Install, configure, test, calibrate, and commission Sonablate medical-device systems at customer locations. ✓ Conduct equipment performance evaluations and verify that equipment meets manufacturer specifications, engineering requirements, safety standards, and approved operating parameters. ✓ Perform preventive maintenance, performance testing, calibration, troubleshooting, repairs, and manufacturer-approved modifications and upgrades. ✓ Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions using technical documentation, diagnostic equipment, engineering principles, and systematic troubleshooting methodologies. ✓ Evaluate equipment and system performance through testing, data review, observation, and consultation with equipment users, clinical staff, Engineering, and other technical personnel. ✓ Investigate recurring or unusual technical problems and communicate findings, trends, and recommendations to Service, Engineering, Quality, and other appropriate departments. ✓ Participate in root-cause analysis and provide technical input regarding equipment performance, field failures, service trends, and potential corrective or preventive actions. ✓ Determine when technical issues can be resolved independently and when additional Engineering, Quality, manufacturer, or other specialized support is required. ✓ Complete field upgrades, modifications, software or hardware updates, and other approved engineering changes. ✓ Interpret technical manuals, engineering specifications, schematics, drawings, service documentation, procedures, and work instructions. ✓ Uncrate, assemble, install, test, and prepare equipment for customer operation. ✓ Safely disassemble, crate, relocate, and prepare equipment for transportation when required. ✓ Perform required equipment safety testing and verify compliance with applicable manufacturer and company requirements. ✓ Provide technical guidance and equipment training to healthcare personnel and equipment users as appropriate. ✓ Explain technical issues, equipment operation, and service requirements to customers and clinical personnel in a professional and understandable manner. ✓ Collaborate with healthcare professionals to assess equipment performance and identify technical issues that may affect system operation or clinical use. ✓ Maintain accurate and timely documentation of installations, repairs, preventive maintenance, calibrations, field modifications, technical findings, and other service activities. ✓ Prepare technical and biomedical service reports by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and summarizing equipment information and service trends. ✓ Maintain appropriate inventories of service tools, equipment, replacement parts, and supplies. ✓ Follow Sonablate's Quality Management System, approved procedures, applicable regulatory requirements, and documentation practices. ✓ Maintain knowledge of assigned products, engineering changes, technical developments, service procedures, safety requirements, and applicable quality-system requirements. ✓ Provide field engineering and technical support at customer locations throughout the assigned territory and other locations as required. ✓ Maintain professional relationships with customers, healthcare professionals, vendors, and internal teams. ✓ Manage assigned field-service activities, customer priorities, travel schedules, documentation, and technical responsibilities with limited direct supervision. ✓ Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities and professional nature of the position, as assigned. Education ✓ Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another directly related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university required. ✓ The position requires advanced engineering knowledge customarily obtained through a prolonged course of specialized academic instruction. Experience ✓ Minimum of one year of related engineering, biomedical, medical-device, or field-service experience supporting complex electromechanical equipment. ✓ Experience with medical devices, therapeutic or diagnostic ultrasound, medical imaging systems, or other sophisticated healthcare technology strongly preferred. ✓ Previous experience troubleshooting, testing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, or repairing complex electromechanical systems preferred. ✓ Experience working within an FDA-regulated medical-device or similarly regulated environment preferred. Technical Qualifications ✓ Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles to equipment evaluation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution. ✓ Strong electromechanical troubleshooting and analytical skills. ✓ Ability to independently analyze technical problems and determine appropriate corrective actions. ✓ Ability to interpret engineering specifications, schematics, technical drawings, diagnostic information, procedures, and service documentation. ✓ Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical systems. ✓ Familiarity with diagnostic, calibration, electrical, and mechanical testing equipment. ✓ Understanding of preventive maintenance, equipment installation, calibration, repair, and safety-testing principles. ✓ Experience with root-cause analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies preferred. ✓ Knowledge of Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Quality Management Systems preferred. ✓ Technical writing experience preferred. Travel and Scheduling Requirements ✓ This is a remote, field-based position supporting customers primarily throughout Southern California . ✓ Significant travel to customer locations is required. ✓ Travel may include driving and commercial air travel. ✓ Overnight travel may be required depending on customer and business needs. ✓ The employee must be able to independently manage travel schedules, service appointments, technical assignments, and customer requirements. ✓ Customer and procedure schedules may occasionally require work during evenings, weekends, or outside normal business hours. ✓ Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet applicable company driving requirements.
