Position Summary The Field Service Engineer (FSE) - Chicago is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Precision IO Group's robotic guidance and microwave ablation systems at customer sites throughout the greater Chicago metropolitan area. This role serves as the primary technical point of contact for hospital and surgical center customers, ensuring system uptime, regulatory compliance, and an exceptional customer experience. Working closely with Sales, Clinical Education, and Technical Support teams, the FSE performs preventive maintenance, software and hardware upgrades, and emergency service calls, while documenting all service activity in accordance with Precision IO Group's quality system and applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485). This is a field-based, customer-facing role requiring strong technical aptitude, independent judgment, and the ability to manage a dynamic service schedule across multiple accounts in the Chicago region. Key Accountabilities Install, calibrate, and maintain robotic guidance and microwave ablation systems at customer sites across the Chicago metro area, performing preventive maintenance, software/hardware upgrades, and calibration per manufacturer specifications. Respond promptly to service requests and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues to minimize system downtime and support procedural readiness for scheduled cases. Document all service activities, parts usage, and customer interactions in the Company's field service management system in compliance with FDA and
ISO 13485
quality system requirements. Partner with Sales, Clinical Education, and Technical Support teams to support new installations, in-servicing, and overall customer satisfaction within the assigned territory. Education, Experience & Skills Working knowledge of robotic surgical systems, capital medical equipment, or related electromechanical systems strongly preferred. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent military or field service experience will be considered. Minimum 2-4 years of field service, biomedical equipment, or capital equipment support experience, preferably within the medical device or healthcare technology industry. Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, software, and networked systems, with the ability to read schematics and technical documentation. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry equipment and tools up to 70 lbs. (e.g., robot enclosure and related system components), and to stand, bend, kneel, and maneuver in operating room and clinical environments for extended periods. Ability to travel by car and/or air throughout the assigned territory, including occasional overnight travel, with a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations, to support emergency service needs and scheduled procedures. Travel Requirements Up to 50-75% travel required (domestic/international as applicable) Location This position will be based in Chicago, IL (or the greater Chicago metropolitan area), supporting customer accounts throughout the region, with occasional travel to other territories as needed for coverage purposes.
