Scope:
Learn on-the-job under supervision from the Field Services Foreman, construct and maintain water systems. Support and adhere to the Smyth Industries Policies and Procedures, Safety Compliance, and Values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Knowledge and Communication:
Exhibit technical knowledge and experience in the civil construction trade. | Provide effective project communication, both orally and in writing | Ability to thrive in a team environment and work with other divisions | Complete nonroutine task assigned.
Tools, Equipment, and Site Support:
Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment and keep parts and supplies in order | Perform semi-skilled and unskilled labor duties related to installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of civil construction tasks | Reassemble equipment, using hand tools | Ability to select tools to complete daily job tasks | Proficient in the use of basic hand tools to perform daily job functions: screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, cordless drills, hand operated saw, level, etc. | General site clean-up, digging trenches, staging material, or all other duties as assigned.
Mechanical and Piping Construction:
Assist with aboveground and belowground mechanical construction work, including pipe laying, pipefitting, and installation of small-diameter piping for water and reclamation systems | Assist with installation, alignment, and support of above ground and belowground piping, valves, fittings, pipe supports, and appurtenances used in municipal, industrial, and agricultural water systems | Support pump station, booster station, well site, pressure vessel, surge vessel, and storage tank construction activities as directed by the foreman.
Concrete and Civil Site Work:
Support concrete work such as setting forms, placing and finishing flatwork, constructing storage tank ring foundations, and preparing well head pads | Prepare work areas for concrete placement, including subgrade preparation, form layout, reinforcement placement support, embedded coordination, and cleanup after pours | Assist with excavation support, trench preparation, backfill, compaction, grading, and surface restoration associated with utility system construction.
Material Handling and Organization:
Load, unload, stage, and protect piping, fittings, valves, concrete materials, tools, and equipment to maintain an organized and safe work site.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledgeable with two of the following tasks: installing aboveground and belowground piping, performing mechanical piping work, installing underground piping, laying pipe above and below ground, installing hydropneumatics tanks, setting forms for concrete, finishing concrete, site grading, and/or general mechanical skills | Ability to read basic layout markings, follow verbal instructions, take field measurements, and verify that materials are installed in the correct location and orientation | Basic understanding of safe rigging awareness, material handling, excavation safety, concrete placement safety, and work around active construction equipment | Ability to assist with mechanical assembly, bolting, gasket installation, pipe support installation, valve installation, and general equipment setting under supervision | Self-motivated, task-oriented, leader | Required to possess a valid driver's license and legally be able to operate a company vehicle | Required to pass a preemployment drug screening | Working knowledge of OSHA regulations | Must be able to physically perform all required duties which may include bending, lifting 50-pound objects, carrying 50-pound items, squatting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, working outdoors most of the time, or standing for prolonged periods of time | Required to wear company supplied Personal Protective Equipment | The applicant should be comfortable working around industrial equipment.
