A Field Service Technician services and repairs equipment and machines in a variety of customer locations such as residential, commercial, or industrial settings. Workers in this field can specialize in the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of industrial, hardware, construction or electronic equipment just to name a few. These roles may work in a variety of remote locations and can travel up to multiple locations in a day.
Deep Roots Craftsmen, a historic preservation contractor based in Fort Collins, Colorado, is looking for a Window Technician to join our dynamic shop team. Thanks in large part to one of the strongest grant programs in the country, preservation is thriving in Colorado. Most of our projects are partly state-funded, leading to an interesting and always varying range of non-profit clients and project sites. Our projects have ranged from historic barns, to school houses, to churches to museum spaces and additions/ renovations on private homes. Each job is unique in its elements but consistent in their adherence to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards. With many of these projects, there is scope for window and door restoration as well as window reproduction.
Duties, and Responsibilities:
As one of our Window Technicians, you will perform many or all window restoration tasks.
These tasks typically include:
steaming windows and removing glass, stripping paint, sanding windows/doors, performing epoxy and simple repairs, re-glazing windows, and painting windows/ doors. Work often involves potential exposure to lead paint and we may measures in place in the shop space to mitigate and minimize these risks. Additionally, our team is looking for occasional help in the field with the removal and reinstallation of windows and doors. This work can include cutting historic windows loose and removing, installing temporary panels during restoration, and reinstallation of windows/doors and weatherstripping. All Window Technicians work directly beneath the Window Restoration Manager interact with clients on-site and in the shop. All staff are responsible for keeping the shop clean and safe.
Job Task Proficiency:
Basic understanding of window restoration practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, and materials is a plus Attention to detail is a must Bringing a good positive attitude and positively contributing to the respectful and welcoming work space is a must Background in painting or art is a plus
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work with hand-tools and the physical demands that come with sometimes repetitive tasks. Ability to climb ladders up to 30 feet in height. Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 50 lbs. for 50 feet.
Interpersonal and Communications Skills:
Understand verbal and written instructions. Ability to closely follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) presented by Supervisor Establish good relationships with all parties involved in the window restoration process and facilitate harmonious working relationships during projects.
Organizational Skills:
Bring tasks to successful completion on a daily/weekly basis. Complete accurate personal time tracking and/or job-task time documentation.
Problem Solving:
Assess when to ask for help and instruction.
Health & Safety:
Follow health & safety requirements on- and off-site, including lead-safe equipment and hygiene practices; power equipment clearance and use. Comply with workplace laws & regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.). All positions feature a 30 day trial period after which a review will take place. Drug testing and background checks may be performed for start to employment. After 30 days, PTO would be accrued.
