Job Description

Job Summary The purpose of this job is to maintain, repair, install, survey, and inspect all new and existing backflow devices within the City in accordance with regulatory requirements, and in compliance with regulatory agencies. Works under close supervision of the Water Supervisor. Job Responsibilities Works collaboratively with supervisor in cross connection control tasks. Responds to and resolves inquiries on interruption of service. Maintains records concerning all tasks performed. Performs related duties as required. Install meters, meter boxes, service lines, etc. as required. Diagnose and repair water leaks as required. Perform all other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Training and Experience Must have High school diploma or GED (2) years of experience in the field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have taken a State Approved backflow certification training course and passed both the written and skills test. This certification must be current. (if already obtain) Must be computer literate and possess a valid driver license. Must obtain Water Distribution Level III License within 24 months in position. Physical Requirements Must be physically able to operate specialized testing equipment and repair equipment and tools. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to bend, stoop, and squat to reach service meters and other devices as needed. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work; must be able to walk or stand for prolonged periods of time. Requires full range of body motion in manipulation of limbs and torso for working on scaffolding, climbing ladders and working in confined spaces. May be subject to a certain degree of danger or risk when working near high vehicle traffic areas. May be subject to insects, rodents.
