Full Job Description Description:
Join the DESCO Service Team DESCO Service is seeking a skilled and motivated Field Service Technician to support our customer, Acuity Brands , with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial lighting, electrical, and control systems. This is a field-based position ideal for someone with hands-on electrical or technical experience who enjoys troubleshooting, working independently, traveling to customer locations, and solving technical issues in real-world environments. The Field Service Technician will work directly with customers, DESCO management, dispatch, and manufacturer representatives to ensure service work is completed safely, professionally, and accurately. Key Responsibilities Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial lighting, electrical, and control systems. Perform field service activities including diagnostics, testing, commissioning, repairs, and preventive maintenance. Troubleshoot electrical wiring, power, low-voltage, communication, networking, and control-related issues. Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation. Perform low-voltage wiring and Cat5/network-related work when required. Use electrical testing and diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve system issues. Communicate professionally with customers regarding equipment status, troubleshooting findings, and repairs. Coordinate with DESCO management, dispatch, manufacturer representatives, and customer contacts to ensure timely completion of service activities. Accurately document work performed, parts used, test results, and other required service information. Follow applicable electrical safety procedures, codes, standards, and company policies. Travel to customer and project locations as required.
Requirements:
Qualified candidates should have: Experience as a Field Service Technician, Electrician, Electrical Technician, Lighting Technician , or similar technical role. Hands-on experience working with electrical systems, commercial equipment, lighting systems, controls, or low-voltage systems. Strong electrical and technical troubleshooting skills. Ability to use electrical testing and diagnostic equipment. Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation. Basic understanding of computer networking and/or Cat5 cabling preferred. Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new systems and technologies. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and manage field assignments effectively. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Reliable transportation and ability to travel to customer locations as required. Preferred Experience Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: Commercial lighting installation and repair Lighting control systems Electrical controls or automation Low-voltage wiring and controls Computer networking and Cat5 cabling Construction or facility maintenance Electrical or electronic equipment Commissioning and troubleshooting Supporting large customer sites or multi-location projects Work Conditions & Physical Requirements This position requires regular fieldwork at customer and project locations.
Candidates must be able to:
Travel regularly to assigned worksites. Work in environments where electrical hazards may be present while following required safety procedures and using appropriate protective equipment. Lift, move, hold, and raise equipment weighing up to 50 pounds . Perform work from floor level through shoulder height and above. Safely use ladders when required. Work flexible shifts when necessary to install, maintain, troubleshoot, or inspect electrical systems. Work in a variety of commercial and field environments.
