WATER METER INSTALLER / FIELD TECHNICIAN

Vanguard has been providing automated metering solutions to the water industry for more than 25 years. Our Sarasota County project involves upgrading water meter accounts over a five-year period, giving qualified installers the opportunity to become part of a large, established utility project. This is a hands-on, field-based position for someone who enjoys working outdoors, using tools, solving problems, working independently, and being rewarded for productivity and quality.

This is a production-based position , meaning your earning potential is directly connected to the amount of quality work you complete. WHAT YOU'LL DO

Your responsibilities will include: Install and retrofit residential water meters Work with 5/8" through 1" meters and retrofits up to 2" Install and activate cellular endpoints Remove and replace meters, registers, and associated components as needed Replace or repair valves, meter boxes, lids, risers, and other components as trained Use hand tools and plumbing components Identify and document service-line materials Capture required installation photographs Enter accurate information into a handheld device Complete required project paperwork Maintain a clean work area and leave customer property in good condition Communicate professionally with customers and your project team

THIS IS NOT JUST A METER-SWAP JOB

You'll receive training on meter boxes, valves, and basic repairs so you can develop the skills necessary to handle more of the work independently.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for someone who is: Dependable and self-motivated Comfortable working independently Mechanically inclined Comfortable using hand tools Detail-oriented and accurate Comfortable using smartphones/ handheld devices Professional when interacting with co-workers, customers and the public Comfortable working outdoors in Florida weather Able to bend, stoop, walk frequently, and lift up to 75 lbs. Able to assemble and disassemble plumbing components Able to maintain consistent production Safety-conscious and committed to following procedures

EXPERIENCE

Water meter installation experience is preferred, but we will consider candidates with related plumbing, utility, construction, mechanical, irrigation, or field-service experience. The ability to learn our installation process, work safely, and consistently produce quality work is just as important as previous experience.

WHAT A TYPICAL DAY LOOKS LIKE

Your day begins by checking out your meters, materials, tools, and supplies before heading to your assigned route. You'll work through your scheduled accounts, completing installations, documenting each job, checking your work, and moving to the next location. Installers are expected to manage their time effectively, maintain production, and complete all required documentation and quality-control requirements.

Valid US driver's license Reliable personal vehicle with current insurance Clean driving record Ability to pass required drug screening Ability to work independently Reliable attendance Ability to work outdoors Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. Strong attention to detail Ability to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers Personal vehicle use is required. Company vehicles are not provided for this position.
