Job Description

Field Service Technician - Automated Equipment (Direct Hire)
Location:
South Elgin / Belvidere, IL (local to Elgin area)
Pay:
Up to $42/hr
Travel:
Up to 25%, well-planned, home on weekends We're hiring a Service Technician to support the assembly, testing, installation, and service of custom automated equipment. This is a direct-hire role with stable travel expectations and a strong mix of shop and field work — ideal for a field service technician looking to reduce on-call duties and overall travel without giving up hands-on automation work. When not traveling, you'll be based locally in the shop supporting machine builds, troubleshooting, and final testing. Travel is scheduled in advance and designed to keep technicians home on weekends. What You'll Be DoingAssemble, test, debug, and troubleshoot custom automated machinery in the shopPerform field installations, service, and warranty support at customer sitesSupport final quality and performance testing prior to shipmentDiagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control-related issuesAssist with customer acceptance testing, demonstrations, and trainingDocument field issues and feedback to support engineering and manufacturing improvementsWork out of both the South Elgin and Belvidere locations as neededWhat We're Looking For3+ years experience as a Service Technician, Field Service Technician, or Lead Machine BuilderBackground in automation equipment (assembly, test, or service)Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skillsAbility to read and interpret 3D CAD drawings, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical schematicsWorking knowledge of PLC systems (ability to read ladder logic; basic edits a plus)Comfortable with hand tools and basic machine shop equipmentAssociate's degree, technical certificate, or equivalent hands-on experienceWhy This Role Stands OutUp to $42/hr based on experienceDirect hire with long-term stabilityTravel capped at ~25% and well plannedHome on weekendsStrong balance of shop work and field serviceIdeal step for a field service tech seeking less travel and fewer on-call demands Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or genetic information.
