The Field Service Technician is a trained member of the O&M staff proficient in CHP and microgrid systems, supporting effective operation practices and proactive resolution of issues at client sites. Unison Energy designs its microgrids with baseloads covered by cogeneration systems and can further integrate technologies like solar, storage, and EV charging. During utility outages, our microgrids enter island mode and power up to 100% of the facility's load. About the Role The Field Technician is a proficient member of the Operations & Maintenance field team, responsible for independent operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Combined Heat & Power (CHP) and microgrid systems at assigned client sites, with the ability to handle most routine and moderately complex issues without direct supervision. Field Technician is the middle tier in Unison's field career path, sitting between Field Operator I and Senior Field Technician. Technicians in this role are expected to work independently at assigned sites, mentor Field Operator I team members, and continue building toward the advanced troubleshooting and leadership responsibilities of a Senior Field Technician. Duties Operate CHP systems or power systems. Gas engine experience preferred. Mechanical experience rebuilding large, high-speed/medium-speed engines, pumps, and heat exchangers. Experience troubleshooting electrical systems. Participate in and execute an engine tear-down plan on schedule with a team. Use Windows and computer software for work scheduling, basic apps, and instant messaging tools. Positively contribute to a culture of accountability, execution, and training in a fun and rewarding environment. Work independently and in a flexible working environment. Experience High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or power generation systems preferred. 2 to 4 years of relevant field, mechanical, or industrial maintenance experience. Military mechanical or electrical experience is a plus. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience on engine, pump, and heat exchanger systems. Working knowledge of electrical systems and safe work practices, with the ability to troubleshoot independently. Comfortable using Windows-based computer systems, mobile apps, and instant messaging tools for scheduling and reporting. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record; ability to travel regularly within the assigned region. Ability to work flexible hours, including full participation in the on-call rotation. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varied field conditions, including confined spaces, heights, and outdoor weather. This role is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). All hours worked, including approved overtime, are paid at the applicable hourly and overtime rates. On-call and standby time is compensated in accordance with Unison's standby pay policy.
