JR & SR Field Service Technician - 2 Openings Job Description This role provides on-site field service support for packaging equipment, including stretch wrappers, baggers, case-packers, case sealers, and palletizers. The Senior Field Service Technician installs, maintains, and repairs equipment at customer locations, with a strong focus on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting. Responsibilities Complete daily field service repairs on customers' packaging equipment, including stretch wrappers, baggers, case-packers, case sealers, and palletizers. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, including high and low voltage systems, to restore equipment to optimal operation. Perform planned and preventive maintenance on customers' equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Install new packaging equipment at customer sites and provide thorough training to customers on proper operation and basic maintenance. Work directly with customers to understand equipment issues, communicate findings, and provide clear, professional solutions. Collaborate closely with the Sales Team to support company goals and ensure a positive customer experience during equipment deployments and upgrades. Complete accurate and detailed service tickets at the end of each service call, documenting work performed, parts used, and recommendations. Support the company's four-business-hour service guarantee by responding promptly and efficiently to service requests. Obtain parts information and purchase orders needed to complete repairs in a timely and cost-effective manner. Coordinate with the Service Coordinator to schedule, prioritize, and complete service calls efficiently. Travel locally around the Chicago suburbs, using company vehicles, to visit multiple customer locations as needed. Drive up to approximately eight hours per day when required to reach customer sites, while maintaining safe driving practices. Work a standard 40-hour work week, with overtime available and optional based on business needs. Occasionally travel overnight (less than 5% of the time) while still returning home most days. Essential Skills Experience in the packaging or repair field, specifically working in a field service capacity rather than solely in-house maintenance. Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems, including installation, adjustment, and repair of packaging equipment. Advanced knowledge of electrical concepts, including high and low voltage systems, and safe working practices. Understanding of the essential principles of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), sensors, switches, and relays, with an emphasis on mechanical installations. Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair complex machinery and equipment in the field. Experience with packaging equipment such as stretch wrappers, baggers, case-packers, case sealers, and palletizers. Strong skills in PLC troubleshooting and electrical troubleshooting in an industrial environment. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in challenging and time-sensitive situations while maintaining high-quality work. Valid driver's license and a safe driving record suitable for operating company vehicles for local travel. Ability to complete detailed service documentation, including service tickets and maintenance records. Capability to perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs with minimal supervision. Strong customer service and communication skills to work directly with customers and internal teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a maintenance or installation role with a desire to advance and broaden technical skillsets. Background in servicing or installing industrial packaging equipment in a field environment. Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and best practices for industrial machinery. Comfort working within a structured operating framework such as the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales and service coordination, to achieve shared goals. Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple service calls and travel requirements in a given day. Adaptability to changing priorities and varying customer environments. Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with evolving packaging technologies and control systems. The role is primarily field-based, serving customers throughout the Chicago suburbs. Technicians travel locally using company vehicles, often driving for extended periods (up to approximately eight hours in a day) to reach customer sites. Overnight travel is minimal, at less than 5%, allowing technicians to be home most days. A standard work schedule is approximately 40 hours per week, with overtime available and optional depending on workload and customer needs. Technicians work in a variety of customer facilities, interacting with industrial packaging equipment such as stretch wrappers, baggers, case-packers, case sealers, and palletizers. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carol Stream, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $40.00/hr.
