Commercial Handyman / Facilities Maintenance Technician Sola Salons - San Luis Obispo, CA Overview Sola Salons is seeking a dependable, skilled, and versatile Commercial Handyman / Facilities Maintenance Technician to help maintain our beautiful salon studio facility in San Luis Obispo. This is an on-call, as-needed position (roughly 3-10 hours per week) for someone who enjoys solving problems, takes pride in quality workmanship, and communicates professionally. In this role, you'll be the go-to expert for maintaining our commercial property and ensuring our salon professionals enjoy a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment. From plumbing and electrical repairs to drywall, painting, HVAC troubleshooting, and general building maintenance, you'll play a vital role in keeping our facility operating at its best. We're looking for a true "jack-of-all-trades" who is proactive, resourceful, dependable, and available to respond to maintenance requests within 24 hours whenever possible. Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting throughout the facility. Diagnose and repair plumbing issues including faucets, toilets, drains, shut-off valves, and minor leaks. Perform basic electrical repairs including outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, ballasts, breakers, and troubleshooting. Troubleshoot and perform minor HVAC and mechanical repairs while coordinating major repairs with licensed contractors when necessary. Repair drywall, patch holes, texture, paint, and perform finish work. Complete general carpentry including doors, trim, shelving, cabinetry, hardware, and fixture installation. Assemble, install, and repair commercial fixtures and equipment. Perform preventative maintenance to identify and resolve issues before they become costly repairs. Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment. Communicate clearly regarding repair status, materials needed, and estimated completion times. Work independently to prioritize and complete maintenance requests efficiently. Coordinate with outside vendors when specialized repairs are required. Follow all applicable safety procedures and building codes while performing repairs. Qualifications 5+ years of commercial handyman, facilities maintenance, or building maintenance experience preferred. Strong working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, drywall, painting, carpentry, and general building repairs. Ability to diagnose maintenance issues independently and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions. Experience using hand tools, power tools, ladders, and common maintenance equipment safely. Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to read basic wiring diagrams or equipment manuals. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Reliable transportation and a valid California driver's license. Professional appearance with a positive, can-do attitude. Dependable, organized, and responsive. Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical work including climbing ladders, working overhead, and standing for extended periods. Experience maintaining commercial buildings or multi-tenant facilities is highly preferred. Experience with salon, retail, or office environments is a plus. Licensed contractor is not required; however, applicants must be experienced, knowledgeable, and capable of performing quality repairs safely and in compliance with applicable building codes.
