Job Description

Work involves repairing and maintaining automobiles, trucks, tractors, bulldozers, motor graders, backhoes, excavators and other gasoline or diesel powered automotive and construction equipment. The Master Mechanic - Senior is a highly experienced, veteran mechanic with a proven record for problem solving, high productivity, and consistent leadership within the department. Duties and Responsibilities Performs routine and preventative maintenance and general repairs to motor vehicles, light , medium and heavy trucks, and construction equipment with both gasoline and diesel engines for various County departments. Performs maintenance inspections. Performs some electric and acetylene welding and cutting. Performs sheet metal, paint and body repairs. Maintains a clean and organized maintenance shop and work area. Cleans, preserves and secures tools and shop equipment. Performs tire maintenance including changing and repair. Operates and transports vehicles and construction equipment as needed for maintenance and repairs. Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner. Performs all other duties as assigned by supervision.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent. Five years' experience in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and/or diesel vehicles and construction equipment with a minimum of five years' experience with Shelby County as a Master Mechanic. Class A Commercial Driver's License with Hazmat/Tanker endorsement.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Eight years of experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and/or construction equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Employee may be subject to extreme weather conditions if repairs are performed at the job site.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is heavy to very heavy in nature and consists of standing, lifting, carrying and pushing of up to 60 pounds (with assistance if needed,) bending, walking, using hand and fingers to operate tools. Must have good vision to read and make necessary repairs.
EXAMINATIONS
No written or performance examination will be required for this position. Applicants are screened and certified based on an evaluation of their education, training, experience and other requirements as outlined in this Position Announcement and denoted on their Job Application and responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire.
