Job Purpose The Mobile Master Technician - Mission Critical Projects is a master-level technician deployed to high-priority Herc Rentals locations across the country. This long-term role is designed to provide expert technical support, reduce downtime, and ensure fleet readiness in critical operational zones. The position requires extensive travel (up to 90%) and the ability to work independently while building strong relationships with local teams and customers. Travel to designated Herc branches and customer job sites to perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on a wide range of fleet equipment. Prioritize service needs in high-impact areas, including emergency repairs, fleet readiness for large-scale projects, and support for under-resourced branches. Diagnose and troubleshoot fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and propane systems. Recondition and replace parts to restore equipment to safe operating condition. Educate local teams and customers on proper equipment usage and maintenance to prevent future breakdowns. Maintain a clean and organized work area at each job site and adhere to all safety protocols both in the shop and on the road. Maintain assigned truck housekeeping and parts inventory Maintain equipment to company standards of readiness, completing appropriate paperwork for repair tracking and accounting, including applicable DOT driver logs and electronic paperwork Produce timely and detailed service reports and repair logs for each location visited. Collaborate with branch managers and regional operations to identify and resolve recurring technical issues. Serve as a technical mentor to local technicians when needed. Requirements High school diploma or GED required; technical school or trade certification preferred. Minimum 7 years of experience as a heavy equipment technician, preferably in field service roles. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred. Must possess a complete set of personal tools suitable for heavy equipment diagnostics and repair. Skills Strong diagnostic and repair skills across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. Ability to diagnose and service diesel and gas engines, transmissions, air brake systems, and electronic controls found on trucks, heavy equipment, and support equipment. Proficient in reading and interpreting schematics and diagrams for hydraulic and electrical systems (AC/DC). Perform periodic maintenance and major repairs as needed. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and emergency call-outs. Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in various weather conditions. Pay Range:
