The City of San Bernardino is seeking a self-starter able to work in a fast-paced environment. Equipment Mechanic I (Flex) diagnoses, maintains, repairs, and overhauls a wide variety of diesel, gasoline, electric, hybrid and CNG-powered automotive, construction equipment and police vehicles. 80 Annually Education and Experience High School Diploma, or G.E.D.; AND two (2) years of journey-level experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles or construction equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Equipment Mechanic I is expected to be capable of meeting the proficiency criteria within a 12-24 month period, depending on an individual's prior experience and progression in performing the full range of Equipment Mechanic II duties as described in the established performance criteria. Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment A State of California driver's license. A valid Class "B" California Driver's License with appropriate Passenger and/or Tank and/or Hazmat endorsement(s) will be required prior to completion of probationary period. 20 Annually Education and Experience High School Diploma, or G.E.D.; AND three to four (3-4) years of journey-level experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles or construction equipment or 12-24 months experience as an Equipment Mechanic I for the City; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Equipment Mechanic I may be considered for advancement to Equipment Mechanic II after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties of the latter class. Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment A State of California driver's license. A valid Class "B" California Driver's License with appropriate Passenger and/or Tank and/or Hazmat endorsement(s) Three current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications in any combination (truck and/or automotive) required prior to advancement to Equipment Mechanic II. ASE Heavy Duty Truck Technician Certification is highly desirable.
