Duties Diagnose and repair heavy equipment including excavators, cranes, bulldozers, loaders, and other construction machinery using OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) schematics and technical manuals. Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire service, brake repairs, hydraulic system servicing, and transmission overhauls to maximize equipment lifespan. Conduct electrical diagnostics on systems such as electrical wiring, sensors, starters, alternators, and onboard computers to identify faults quickly. Fabricate parts or modify existing components using welding, soldering, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication techniques to meet specific operational needs. Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues involving suspension systems, air brakes, HVAC systems, steering components, and hydraulics for optimal performance. Test repaired equipment through heavy lifting operations or simulated use scenarios to ensure safety standards are met before returning machinery to service. Maintain detailed service records including inspections, repairs performed, parts used, and diagnostics performed to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Experience Proven experience working as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic in a dealership or industrial setting with a strong understanding of construction machinery maintenance. Hands-on experience with diesel engine diagnostics and repair on various equipment such as tractors-trailers, farm machinery, and industrial vehicles. Skilled in using schematics for electrical systems troubleshooting along with automotive diagnostics tools for precise fault detection. Demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment safely and effectively during maintenance or troubleshooting procedures. Familiarity with welding techniques including MIG/TIG welding for fabrication or repair tasks. Knowledge of HVAC systems on heavy machinery plus experience with tire service and alignment procedures. Strong mechanical knowledge complemented by the ability to work independently or as part of a team in fast-paced environments requiring heavy lifting and equipment troubleshooting.
