Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and energetic Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety under the supervision and direction of our Fleet Mechanic. Your expertise will help keep our operations running smoothly. Responsibilities Perform detailed inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy equipment including excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors, and other industrial machinery. Utilize OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) manuals and schematics to accurately diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues. Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, brake repairs, transmission servicing, and tire service to maximize equipment lifespan. Fabricate parts or components as needed using welding, soldering, and hand tools to ensure proper fit and function. Repair and maintain diesel engines, air brake systems, suspension components, hydraulics, and electrical wiring. Operate heavy equipment safely during testing or troubleshooting procedures to verify repairs or diagnose issues. Maintain detailed service records and logs of all repairs performed while adhering to safety protocols and quality standards. Requirements Proven mechanic experience with heavy equipment. Strong mechanical knowledge of Caterpillar (CAT), OEM systems, farm machinery, automotive diagnostics, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, and electrical components. Proficiency in reading schematics and technical manuals for accurate troubleshooting. Skilled in the use of power tools, hand tools, welding equipment, soldering irons and other maintenance tools. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and operate heavy equipment when necessary for testing or repair purposes. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to team members or clients. Valid certifications in diesel engine repair, brake repair (including air brakes), HVAC systems or welding are a plus. Experience working with farm machinery or industrial equipment is desirable; familiarity with tractor-trailers is an advantage.
