Under immediate supervision, performs semiskilled work in operating a limited variety of general hauling, construction, and maintenance equipment in the construction and maintenance of county roads and other county property. Position does not supervise any other employees.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operates any of the following types of equipment: graders, front-end loaders, backhoes, asphalt distributors, rollers, and related equipment to maintain and repair county roads and drainage structures. Checks and fuels vehicles and perform light mechanical adjustments and assists mechanic in performing repairs on assigned equipment. Ensure all site activities are performed in a safe and efficient manner, while adhering to safety regulations and established operational procedures. Immediately report and safety-related incidents. Display and maintain a professional decorum at all times. Perform maintenance, troubleshooting and housekeeping tasks, as required.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
May drive dump and water trucks. May blade roads and spread gravel and rock using graders. May distribute asphalt using specialized equipment. May make and grade road shoulders, bridge headers, shape ditches, and install culverts using grader. May perform various manual tasks involved in repairing roads and bridges. Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
