Job Summary UP Equipment USA is seeking an experienced and dependable Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Field Service Technician to take primary responsibility for the maintenance, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of our rental equipment. This is a hands-on position and does not involve supervising a team. The selected candidate will work independently and be responsible for keeping our equipment safe, operational, and ready for rent. In addition to performing maintenance and repairs at our Lutz location, the mechanic will occasionally travel to customer job sites to diagnose or repair equipment that is not operating correctly. The position may also require assisting with local equipment deliveries and pickups when needed. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, mechanically skilled, and comfortable troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems both in the shop and in the field. Primary Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on rental equipment. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, battery, charging, and engine-related problems. Troubleshoot equipment fault codes using technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic tools. Inspect equipment before it leaves for a rental and after it is returned. Ensure equipment is safe, clean, fueled or charged, and ready for the next customer. Respond to local customer service calls when equipment is not operating correctly. Travel to job sites to diagnose problems and complete repairs whenever possible. Explain basic equipment operation and troubleshooting procedures to customers. Assist with local equipment deliveries and pickups as needed. Safely load, unload, move, and secure equipment when required. Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, repairs, parts, and equipment condition. Identify damaged or missing components and report the required repairs. Monitor commonly used parts, tools, fluids, and maintenance supplies. Keep the shop, tools, equipment, and yard work areas clean and organized. Prioritize repairs according to rental schedules and operational needs. Communicate equipment status, required repairs, and estimated completion times to management. Follow all company safety procedures while working in the shop, yard, or at customer locations. Equipment Serviced The mechanic may work on equipment such as: Scissor lifts Boom lifts and towable lifts Telehandlers Skid steers and track loaders Mini excavators Rollers and compactors Light towers Concrete and construction tools Other compact construction and rental equipment Required Qualifications Previous experience repairing construction, rental, agricultural, automotive, diesel, or industrial equipment. Strong knowledge of electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting. Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and equipment fault codes. Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation. Experience using hand tools, power tools, multimeters, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment. Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and complete repairs efficiently. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Good customer service and communication skills. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Ability to travel to customer job sites throughout the Tampa Bay area. Ability to safely lift heavy parts and work outdoors in Florida weather conditions. Basic computer and smartphone skills for maintenance records and communication. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications At least two years of equipment maintenance or mechanical repair experience. Experience with aerial lifts, telehandlers, skid steers, excavators, or similar rental equipment. Experience diagnosing 12V, 24V, battery-powered, hydraulic, gasoline, or diesel equipment. Previous field service or mobile repair experience. Experience transporting, loading, or securing construction equipment. Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus.
