$19.72/hour Position Summary The Transit Utility Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and servicing of the City of Terre Haute's fleet of diesel and gasoline-powered buses. This position ensures vehicles are maintained in safe, reliable operating condition to support daily transit operations. The position is primarily assigned to evening and overnight shifts and may include operating city buses as needed. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel and gasoline-powered city buses. Inspect vehicles to identify mechanical issues and ensure compliance with safety standards. Perform preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and extend vehicle life. Operate city buses as necessary to support transit operations. Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities. Follow all safety procedures, policies, and applicable regulations. Maintain a clean and organized work area in the garage facility. Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements & Skills Considerable knowledge and skill in automotive and diesel maintenance mechanics. Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing both diesel and gasoline engines. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with supervisors and coworkers. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification required, or the ability to obtain certification within twelve (12) months of employment. Education & Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required. Licenses & Certifications Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B-P. Physical Effort & Work Environment Work is performed primarily in a garage setting. The position requires regular physical activity including lifting, bending, stooping, reaching, and working in confined spaces.
Physical requirements include:
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds. Sufficient physical strength and mobility to perform all maintenance and repair tasks. Ability to see and hear within normal parameters. Ability to extend hands and arms to perform mechanical work.
Pay:
From $19.72 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
