Automotive Equipment Installer Location:
Portsmouth, VA Pay:
$20-$25/hour (based on experience)Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM Build and Customize Work Trucks for Municipal and Commercial Fleets Are you an Automotive Technician, Diesel Mechanic, Trailer Technician, Maintenance Mechanic, or Equipment Installer looking for a steady weekday schedule? Join a growing truck upfitting team that customizes and services work trucks for municipalities, government agencies, utility companies, and commercial fleets. In this hands-on role, you'll install truck equipment, troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic systems, and perform repairs on specialty vehicles. If you enjoy working with tools, solving mechanical problems, and seeing a finished product leave the shop, this is an excellent opportunity. What You'll Do Install truck bodies, dump bodies, liftgates, van interiors, snowplows, and other specialty equipment Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and 12V/24V electrical installations Troubleshoot and repair electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems Read work orders, blueprints, and installation instructions Mount components, route wiring, install lighting, and connect hydraulic systems Use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and shop tools daily Test completed installations to ensure quality and proper operation Perform service and repair work on previously installed equipment Maintain a clean and safe work area Follow all shop safety requirements and PPE guidelines What We're Looking For 2+ years of mechanical, automotive, diesel, trailer, fabrication, maintenance, or installation experience Experience using hand and power tools Ability to read tape measures and follow installation instructions Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills Experience with automotive electrical systems, hydraulics, or heavy equipment is a plus Ability to lift, move, and install equipment components safely Team-oriented attitude with strong attention to detail Preferred Experience Candidates with experience in any of the following are encouraged to apply: Automotive Technician Diesel Mechanic Trailer Repair Technician Fleet Maintenance Technician Equipment Installer Heavy Equipment Mechanic Industrial Maintenance Technician Fabrication or Assembly Technician Truck Body Technician Military Mechanical Maintenance Welding experience is helpful but not required. Training is available.
