Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled Friction Crane Mechanic to join the Weeks Marine crane maintenance team in Bourg LA. This position offers a stable, long-term opportunity for friction crane mechanics with a passion for heavy equipment, electrical diagnostics, and mechanical troubleshooting in a shipyard setting. Must live in local commuting area of Bourg LA. Duties Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on friction cranes, including hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. Troubleshoot complex issues using schematics, diagnostic tools, and hands-on techniques to identify root causes of equipment failures. Conduct repairs on crane components such as transmissions, brakes, suspensions, air brakes, and hydraulics to ensure safe operation. Fabricate parts or modify existing components using welding, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication techniques to meet OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications. Maintain detailed service records, work orders, and maintenance logs for all performed tasks. Assist in the assembly and disassembly of crane components during repairs or upgrades. Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, forklifts, or construction machinery as needed for troubleshooting or testing repairs. Skills Proven experience working with dealership service departments or heavy equipment repair shops. Strong mechanical knowledge of construction machinery maintenance, specifically friction cranes. Expertise in electrical diagnostics, automotive diagnostics, and troubleshooting electrical systems on cranes and industrial equipment. Skilled in using schematics, diagnostic software, welding equipment, soldering tools, and hand/power tools for repairs. Familiarity with OEM parts specifications and the ability to fabricate or modify parts as necessary. Knowledge of diesel engine repair, transmissions, HVAC systems, air brake systems, suspension components, tire service, and alignment procedures. Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics accurately; experience with Caterpillar or similar OEM brands is a plus. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with team members and clients about repair needs and maintenance schedules. Physical ability to perform heavy lifting safely; comfortable working at heights or in confined spaces when required.
Pay:
