The candidate should be familiar and skilled with motor vehicle maintenance and repairs, have a preferred knowledge and understanding of diesel mechanics for various trucks and equipment, and be motivated to learn and contribute toward the delivery of various projects at the DPW.

Summary:

The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing town vehicles and equipment, carrying out standardized work assignments in the maintenance and repair of motor driven and mechanical equipment, following prescribed standards of automotive testing and repair practices, involving the application of various established department rules and operating procedures. When not needed in the mechanics garage, the employee is responsible for the provision of skilled and unskilled manual labor including but not limited to digging ditches, patching streets, ground maintenance and the overall completion of Public Works department projects. The employee is required to perform all similar or related duties.

Special Requirements:

A candidate for this position must have a valid Class B Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License with tanker and air brake endorsements. 2A and 4G hoisting license. As a condition of employment, the employee is required to participate in the department's Random Drug and Alcohol Testing Program and must complete a physical examination and maintain the required physical condition in order to perform the essential functions of the position in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the department's occupational safety policies and department equipment or vehicle manufacturer guidelines. Must have own basic mechanic tools.

•The Town of Hadley may help otherwise qualified applicants in obtaining their Class B MA commercial driver's license with tanker and air brake endorsements and their 2A and 4G hoisting license.
