Job Summary:

Work involves responsibility for performing semiskilled tasks in the servicing, maintenance and repair of company vehicles and equipment. Mechanics Helper usually assists a Heavy Equipment Mechanic on complex repair jobs. However, the employee is expected to perform routine daily tasks independently.

Responsibilities of the position are:

As a mechanic helper you are required to assist mechanic in performing daily repair and maintenance task as listed, but not limited to the following;

• Perform repairs as well as preventative maintenance on both equipment and facility machinery in order to achieve peak performance, production and safe operation.
• Utilize vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate repairs.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and hydraulic related failures.
• Conducts safety checks on equipment and vehicles.
• Complete daily maintenance, inspection records, work orders, safety and DOT paper work.
• Assist as needed on a daily basis as circumstances arise.
• Effectively communicate with operators.
• Clean and maintain work area.
• Turn off and lock out equipment during repairs.
• Acquire tools to perform heavy mechanical repairs.

Qualifications:

• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.
• Must possess the ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License
• Must provide acceptable driving history.

Environment:

Working conditions are normal for a heavy equipment shop environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials over 50 pounds. Machinery and tool operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats/bump caps. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
